Fwd: [Amcdelegates] 33900 - The Australian Road Safety Collaboration

Hi all,

On top of all the information from the ACRS conference, here is something else to ponder – and one way to potentially set some of the agenda.

This is an update on a new initiative, known as “33900”, or the Australian Road Safety Collaboration. This is a non-government collaboration that has been developing over the past few months, primarily to work on Australian ideas for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The AMC has been invited to be part of the leadership group of the collaboration, and Ray Newland and I attended a meeting in Melbourne on the afternoon following the ACRS conference.

This was a particularly interesting gathering; free of the constraints that perhaps exist when government representatives are setting the agenda! One of the first things I learned was that it’s not only motorcycle groups that are disappointed with the National Road Safety Strategy – many other people and organisations had spent a lot of time on detailed submissions; little of which was reflected in the final document.
